During the class of Art 1, the learning objectives are to develop creativity through long term project-based learning and to learn the elements and words of art. This is valuable to my future because it will help me to describe art in an impactful way and understand it a little bit better. The project that I am submitting as an artifact for Art 1 is a collage that has some elements of art and a theme.
This project was about figuring out what balance, visual weight, positive & negative space, theme, and organic and geometric shapes really mean when doing a piece of art. The piece of art was a collage, the collage that I made is based on the book The Milk of Birds, it required me to do many things from a lecture to a presentation.
The Process I went through to do this project and meet the learning objectives first started with Mr. Richards giving us a lecture about the different elements and words of art and what they mean, after that, I sketched what kind of collage I wanted to do, then I presented my sketch and told my classmates what my ideas were for my collage. Once the first steps of my collage were done I moved on to gathering my materials like newspapers, scissors, a board, and glue. Then I cut tiny geometric shapes form the newspaper and started gluing them onto the board while following my sketch, after that, I touched it up with some pastels and the little details. Once the deadline came I had to present my collage to the class and tell them about what my collage had, balance, visual weight, positive & negative space, theme, and what types of shapes it had, mine had mostly geometrical shapes. The last thing was my classmates critiquing my collage on what could I have improved on and what I did well.
Throughout this process listed above I have realized I have learned or grown in the following ways, that you should always be on task so things don’t get hard in the end. This links back to the course goals and project goals with the following evidence of what was expected of me in the rubric. This tells me that I learn from my mistakes and I keep learning from them.
The Two School Wide Learning Outcomes I demonstrated with this Artifact are mastering skills needed in career and college, and thinking critically and creatively.I have demonstrated (this first SLO) in the artifact by demonstrating using higher-order thinking skills to solve problems. This is important because you need to be organized to complete anything if your not, you will be all over the place and it will be hard to finish. The Second SLO I demonstrated was transferring learned skills to real-life by being organized and prepared, this is important because in the real world you have to be organized if you have an important job or else they won't let you work there. I could have improved the following SLO better by not laughing with my friends while I was working on my project.
Overall the most important things I have learned in this class this year are some of the elements of art and how they work, and the different artistic words there are. These skills I have learned in this class will help me in the future by explaining or identifying a work of art with the elements of art and the artistic words that I can use to hear professional on the subject of art.
